The Zoom Curator.
Janine Barchas is a professor of English literature at the University of Texas at Austin. Her books and articles mix a knowledge of design with Jane Austen, publishing history, and marketing. She created the art history innovation What Jane Saw and has guest curated exhibitions at the Harry Ransom Center and the Folger Shakespeare Library. Her essays have appeared in The New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Review of Books, and LitHub.
The pivot to online teaching prompted her new role as Zoom curator. Her learning curve has been steep!
Her goal is to increase your Zoom confidence — by helping you add and subtract from what appears in the background. Most people are blind to the familiar objects in their own house. This is about getting a perspective on the stuff that distracts colleagues and clients. (You could ask them yourself, but that’s a bit awkward.)
